Choosing the Right Modality

Which Service Should You Book?

Shiatsu Massage — if you want energy-flow focus and stay clothed

Pick Shiatsu if you have tension along the neck, shoulders, or back, you like the idea of staying fully clothed under a blanket, and you want the deep nervous-system reset that comes from sustained meridian pressure. Best for first-time massage clients, desk workers, and anyone who finds oil-based massage uncomfortable. Sessions run 30–120 minutes from $65. Read the full Shiatsu page →

Cupping Therapy — if you have stubborn deep tissue tightness

Pick cupping if you have chronic muscle tension that hasn't responded to regular massage, you want to address deep stagnation rather than surface stiffness, and the visible circular marks (which fade in 2–3 weeks) don't bother you. Best for athletes, outdoor workers in foggy SF weather, and anyone who's plateaued with conventional bodywork. $40 standalone or from $95 combined with massage. Read the full Cupping page →

Shiatsu + Cupping Combo — if you've tried each separately and want both

Pick the combo when you want surface tension worked through and deeper stagnation released in the same session. Most of our regulars who started with either Shiatsu or cupping alone eventually moved to the combo as their default session. 60–120 min from $113. See the combo session page →

Hot Stone, Foot Reflexology, and Foot+Body Combos

Hot stone adds heated basalt stones placed along the spine and limbs for muscle softening and circulatory benefit — great in winter or for cold-prone bodies. Foot reflexology focuses on pressure points in the feet that correspond to other organs and systems. The Foot+Body combo splits a session between feet and the rest of the body, ideal when you want both a deep foot session and overall relaxation. Pricing for all of these is in the rate tables above.

Not sure which fits your body? Call (415) 379-9739 and tell us where you're holding tension — we'll recommend the right session before you book. We're a licensed practice with years of experience matching technique to body, and we won't push the most expensive option.

Evidence & Research

We describe Shiatsu and cupping in their traditional terms, and we keep our wellness claims honest. The AMTA notes that massage therapy can positively influence stress and quality of life, and research reviewed by the NCCIH suggests massage may help with conditions such as low-back and neck pain, though much of the evidence is still preliminary. Massage is not a substitute for medical care, and we encourage you to talk with your health care provider about any ongoing condition.

Your Questions Answered

Do I need to undress for Shiatsu massage?
No. Shiatsu massage is performed while you are fully clothed under a blanket. No oil or lotion is used during the session, though we offer natural lotion afterward if you'd like.
How long is a typical session?
Sessions are available in 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, and 120 minute durations. First-time clients usually book 60 minutes.
Is Shiatsu painful?
Shiatsu pressure can feel intense at certain points — some people describe it as "good pain." However, if you feel any discomfort, tell your therapist and they will adjust the pressure to your comfort level.
What are the cupping marks?
Cupping may leave circular marks on the skin that typically disappear within 2–3 weeks. These marks are a normal result of the therapy and indicate areas where circulation was stimulated.
Can I shower after cupping?
It's best to wait at least 8 hours after cupping before showering, as the pores on your skin are still open. Drink plenty of warm water to help flush toxins from the body.
Do I need to book ahead or can I walk in?
We recommend calling ahead at (415) 379-9739 to schedule your appointment, especially during busy times. Walk-ins may be accommodated based on availability.
